Alpha Phi Alpha to Observe 109th Anniversary at PVAMU


The members of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and the Texas Area IX chapters will celebrate its 109th Anniversary with a special Founders' Day Observance Program on December 6, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. in the Johnson Phillip All Faiths Chapel at Prairie View A&M University.

The event is being hosted by the Epsilon Tau Lambda (Prairie View), Eta Gamma (PVAMU), Pi Omicron (TAMU), Pi Alpha Lambda (College Station) and Sigma Gamma Lambda (Cypress/Katy) Chapters

The speaker is for the program is Mr. Kyron Green, the Director of Information Technology for Nutrabolt Inc.  Mr. Green holds the Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems from the University of Arkansas at Monticello. Green formerly served as the IT Policy & Security Programs Administrator and IT Administrator for the Department of English at Texas A&M University.

He also served as a church administrator, board member for Faith and Family Agape Ministries and is the Lead Servant for Eastgate College Ministry at Aldersgate UMC in College Station.  He was initiated into Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. through Pi Psi chapter at the university and is now a member of Pi Alpha Lambda Chapter, where he served as Treasurer, Vice President, and President. 

Alpha Phi Alpha, the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African American Men, was founded at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York by college men who recognized the need for a strong bond of brotherhood among African descendants in this country. The visionary founders, known as the “Jewels” of the fraternity, are Henry Arthur Callis, Charles Henry Chapman, Eugene Kinckle Jones, George Biddle Kelley, Nathaniel Allison Murray, Robert Harold Ogle, and Vertner Woodson Tandy.

Since its founding, the fraternity has expanded its reach with more than 1,600 collegiate and alumni Chapters in the Americas, Africa, Asia, Caribbean and Europe, with more than 250,000 members of all races.

Other participants include the Boys Scout Troop 1906 who will post the colors and The Alpha Singers. 

A reception will follow the program in the Room 108, John B. Coleman Library.  We look forward to your joining us for this momentous event.
